Welcome to Kakano 6 for 2022

This blog will be your one-stop shop for weekly notices and class information.  I will also share what happened during the week in class with you through the week.  I always aim to have the weekly information blog published by 3pm on a Sunday.  It is essential to check this weekly.

I am sure you and your child are anxious and a lot excited to start our school year.  I have been busy setting up our classroom and getting things sorted for the first day of school on Tuesday, the 8th of February.

A bit about me ....



I am a Mum of four children, 3 boys and a girl.  My boys are all studying and working, with one in Wellington, one in Hamilton, and one still at home.  My daughter is in her final year at St Mary's.  My husband works for Fire and Emergency New Zealand as a senior Trainer for new firefighters.  
I love to travel and due to restrictions, I have spent the summer exploring what our local area has to offer. As a family we love to be out on the ocean, fishing out of Whakatane and the Coromandel.

I have been teaching for some time.  I completed my teaching qualification in Early Childhood and worked in Early Childhood and Kindergarten for 16 years before having a break to spend time at home with my children.  5 years ago I made the change to primary school and I have taught at St Mary's since.  I have been a part of the St Mary's family for longer than that though as my boys all attended here.  
It is a privilege to work alongside young children and support them start their school life.

Last Friday at assembly the Junior Kapa Haka group performed for the first time.  They were amazing and this Friday they will perform at JPC  which is very exciting for them. On Monday we have a Teacher Only Day.   Remember if you require care for your child tomorrow you can ring Maryanne Roling from Glenholme Afterschool Care. Literacy in Kakano 6

   In our class, we spend time learning to read and write the alphabet letters.  I have been so impressed with the way the children persevere to correctly write all letters.  We are having fun learning the sounds the letters make and have even started putting letters together to read and write words. Week 8

  It is hard to believe we are now in the last few weeks of school.   As always, we have a lots going on this week, please read through the notices to make sure you know what is happening each day. Monday: Junior school Big Day In  Your child needs their swimming togs, a named water gun, sunhat and your $5 for lunch if not already paid. All junior children can wear home clothes to school for our Fun day. Tuesday: Junior Tryathlon; 11:15 What to bring: bike/scooter, helmet, sneakers, togs. If Parents are available to help please contact your child's teacher.   Wednesday / Thursday Normal school days.   Friday: Year 0-2 Assembly; 2:05 Our children will be hosting our final school Assembly.  Our Year 2 children will be organising the assembly with the support of our Year 0 and 1 children.  Some children will be bring home ‘words’ that they will be saying at our assembly.  All whānau are welcome to join us       Swimming This week Kākano 1-4 are swimming all week.
