Kakano Cafe

Image
What a busy two weeks we have h ad in the morning provocation time. We were looking at dramatic play and made a cafe. Each day the children helped prepare a different cafe item. We had berry smoothies, banana smoothies, porridge, toast, and hot chocolates. We ended the week with pancakes.   A lot of learning happened during the two weeks. The children learned about safety around different kitchen equipment, how to sit at the table while eating, make their own kai, and wash their own dishes. It was lovely to see all the children interacting with each other and teachers while eating our kai. We will continue with toast every morning in Kakano and overwinter porridge and hot chocolates may be available. If you are able to supply spreads for the children's toast, it would be gratefully accepted.

Money Maths

Image
This week we ran the Principal of the Day raffle.  Kakano 6 then had the job of sorting and counting the money.  Everyone helped group the notes and coins into the same denominations.  We then used our counting skills to make groups of $10.  We learned 10 $1 coins makes $10,  5 $2 coins make $10, we had to skip count this 2,4,6,8,10 and worked out that 2 50cent coins make $1, so we needed 20 to make $10.

Kakano Cafe'

This week the play kitchen has turned into a cafe.  The children have made menus and signs.  In the morning during provocations, the children have toast and something from a menu. They have made scrambled eggs, hot chocolates and tomorrow they are making waffles.  The children become the chefs and have to make their meals independently.  After t hey have finished what they are eating they have to clean their dishes. The children have continued playing in the cafe' throughout the day.  they make lots of different meals and drinks with loose parts and then deliver it in the food robots, just like Cobb n Co have Next week we will try different menu items to cook.

Another busy week

Image
I can’t believe we have already been back for 2 weeks. The children have all settled back into their learning well.  Please remember to spend some time doing your child’s literacy homework with them, it doesn’t need to be long about 10-15 minutes. Another great thing to do is read a story to them each night. This week we looked at measurement for maths. We started by making predictions on who is the tallest and shortest in class, the children then needed to work out where they fitted from tallest to shortest. They had some great discussions about the height of different friends.
