Kia Ora Kākano whānau


We had a lovely week this week celebrating the beginning of Lent.  We made Lenten Promises on Monday.  We then burnt our promises in preparation for Ash Wednesday. Please ask your child what they decided they were either going to give up during Lent or what they are going to do to be helpful during Lent.  On Tuesday it was Shrove Tuesday and all the children made pancakes.  On Wednesday it was Ash Wednesday and the children took part in the Ash Wednesday Liturgy.  They all had the sign of the cross drawn on their forehead with the ashes from their Lenten promises.


Covid has started to make its presence in our school.  We have children and staff who are at home isolating.  It is really important for us to continue to keep up our Covid protocols so we ask that no parents are inside the Kākano classrooms and we have made the drop-off zone outside of the Kākano gates  On a wet day, we ask all parents to stay on the outside of the Kākano gates as we have lots of children to get to set areas to meet parents.  We continue to keep our classrooms well ventilated, surfaces washed down and have children sanitising.

If your child tests positive it is very important to let either Dave, Anne, your child's teacher or the school office know.  Thanks for all your help with this.  


Mufti Day

On Friday the Young Vinnies (a group in our school) would like to have a mufti day in support of Ukraine.  Your child can dress in blue and yellow or one of these colours (the colours of the Ukraine flag) and they ask you to bring a gold coin donation.  Children do not have to wear their uniforms on Friday.



Gym  

Mondays at lunchtime if your child wishes to attend. Girls bring shorts and a t-shirt. Boys can come in their uniform - you can bring shorts and t-shirts if you wish.


Roller Skating

Fridays at lunchtime if your child wishes to attend. Bring your own skates and helmets. Your class teacher will help you put your gear on.

Thursday - normal school day

Friday -  Mufti Day - dress in blue and yellow and bring a gold coin donation, sausage sizzle and juicy day $1.50 each, Library day, please bring your library books back each Friday so you can get new books

Week 8

  It is hard to believe we are now in the last few weeks of school.   As always, we have a lots going on this week, please read through the notices to make sure you know what is happening each day. Monday: Junior school Big Day In  Your child needs their swimming togs, a named water gun, sunhat and your $5 for lunch if not already paid. All junior children can wear home clothes to school for our Fun day. Tuesday: Junior Tryathlon; 11:15 What to bring: bike/scooter, helmet, sneakers, togs. If Parents are available to help please contact your child's teacher.   Wednesday / Thursday Normal school days.   Friday: Year 0-2 Assembly; 2:05 Our children will be hosting our final school Assembly.  Our Year 2 children will be organising the assembly with the support of our Year 0 and 1 children.  Some children will be bring home ‘words’ that they will be saying at our assembly.  All whānau are welcome to join us       Swimming This week Kākano 1-4 are swimming all week. Week 4

Last Friday at assembly the Junior Kapa Haka group performed for the first time.  They were amazing and this Friday they will perform at JPC  which is very exciting for them. On Monday we have a Teacher Only Day.   Remember if you require care for your child tomorrow you can ring Maryanne Roling from Glenholme Afterschool Care.
